A MUST BUY! May 13, 2008 This is as a superb RPG for the 360 where for once the storyine is every bit as good as the graphics! There are huge areas to explore and it will take you some time to complete so it's really worth the asking price. If you like RPG then you MUST get this game. 10/10
Flawless - Mass Effect is a Must Own May 12, 2008 So, I was waffling on which next-gen machine to buy, until I saw a review of Mass Effect. It looked compelling, the mix of shooter, roleplay, character creation, and an open and deep story. I bought the 360, and haven't regretted it for a moment. Mass Effect is a game you Will play through more than just once. Not a big fan of RPGs? This is the (semi) rpg for you. I never could abide turn-based, top down play. Mass Effect is totally immersive. The RPG elements are just the fun ones: creating a character with their own individual back story, highly detailed face creation (try to make Shepherd look like you!) and ability boosting. The shooting side is perfect - no control issues, targeting problems, etc. Missions and side assignments abound - this is a nice, long game, with an excellent plot, and superb voice acting. Also, it is very, very pretty =] Buy Mass Effect now - even if you have to buy a 360 as well.
Mass Effect Rocks! Bring on the Sequel May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is the first serious game I got into since buying my xbox 360. It is probably one of the best video games I have ever played, having owned everything from PS2, regular Xbox, Nintendo 64 and all the oldies.
The games VASTNESS can't really be described. There is a general storyline to follow, but you can choose to follow it or not, completing the main missions of the side missions in any order really. You can upgrade your characters with weapons, armors and skills (lots and lots of stuff), you control them in your ambushes to take out enemies, you can control their powers or let the AI do it for you (the AI is really sophisticated too).
I think I liked the control you get over this game the most. Throughout the game, your character has to make various decisions, and the decisions you make effect the rest of the gameplay, really cool. When two of your teammembers are in danger, you have to choose which one to save, for example. If you can't save one, they die and you can't choose them again. But you'll talk about them to the other team members on your ship. Soooo realistic, very cool. When you catch spies you can decide to kill them or let them go, but if you let them go they may come back to haunt you later. You can talk to the press or not, be an upstanding soldier or a corrupt renegade soldier, each comes with its own perks.
I just finished this game with 40+ hours of gameplay, and I totally plan on starting it again, customizing my character, making different decisions, etc. Really great game...I highly recommend.
Good game May 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't have a lot of time to play this game to its completion. It is a long game. Based on my experience it's sort of like an Elder Scrolls III/IV (ES) in space.
There is a little too much dialog for my taste, but one could say that of ES, too. If I had more time, it might not bother me.
The graphics are impeccable. Enjoy the scenery.
Not what I was expecting May 2, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I rented this game from gamefly and i was a little dissapointed. I took a look at the reviews and thought this was going to be a great game. Right at the start i could tell that they must be blind. The game has a lame storyline. The aiming/shooting controls are terrible and lame. The story is sooooooo long. you talk to people more than actually playing the game. You get lame crappy weapons. Theres no reloading just a heat sensor. The reason why is gave 3 stars instead of 2 or 1 is that i bought it for $10 and its not a total waste of time. The graphics are insanely amazing. I would say its better than some games, but is not as good as people say it is. My buddies also say the same thing about this game and how poor it is.
