Replacing the game for a friend. April 28, 2008 The game is exactly what I wanted. My friend had the game and his toddlers destroyed it, so I was just buying him a replacement.
This is the version to get! April 23, 2008 This is a great game to buy. It has a lot of cool comic characters and fun, easy to get into combat. It also has rpg elements but not too many. If you have the luxury of having more than one video game console and are trying to decide which system to buy this game for then this is the game! To my knowledge, the xbox 360 version is the only one with the bonus characters. If you don't have the xbox then obviously you won't want to get a new system (unless you are a hardcore Hulk/Venom etc. fan) but if you do why wouldn't you pick the one with the most bang for your buck?
Playing this game is very fun if a bit easy at times for the more hardcore gamer. Here's a test; if you find Gears of war to be not too difficult (and what a strapping gamer you must be) you might find this game to be a joke. You will definitely want to unlock hard as soon as you can. Maybe try not upgrading all your guys outfits. Right now I am playing with Venom, Hulk and Sabretooth and a fourth guy who I swap out from among my roster of heroes. Right now I am crushing people with very little resistance. The only time I got a challenge was when I had to sub out Venom and Hulk(I think they fell off a cliff or something) and I brought in two scrubs to face Blackheart. I actually had a hard time beating him and one of my underdeveloped underleveled guys got beat down. Gasp, a boss fight that was difficult! Anyway, long story short this is a pretty easy game. The one exception was the bonus comic missions. They were hard but only because they often require you to play with heroes that you aren't as familiar with and haven't developed. Mr. Fantastic got beat down so many times it wasn't even funny. Actually, it was a little funny. I summation this is a fun game that I enjoyed playing through several times. As hinted above I liked playing Venom and the Hulk(the absence of the hulk in the first version of the game was my only gripe with it) but I liked a lot of the other heroes as well. If you were or are a Marvel comic fan then you should be able to find a favorite here. A sheer delight for fans of the classic comics.
Excellent April 11, 2008 This is a hard game to find and I got very quick brand new sealed in the package. I can't wait to deal with him more. A+++
Very fun multy player game February 28, 2008 I played as deadpool, my only regret was that he didn't have more dialogue than he did. But what he did say was funny.
Overall A good time February 19, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
THE GOOD: The good is fairly easy to find. While cartoonish, the graphics are well done and smooth. The implementation of the powers in this game is also well done and follows the previous X-Men games made by this publisher. They are intuitive to use and have the feel they should.
The story, while very much seen before, is true to it's comic roots and feels like you are playing through a well written cross-over comic. The 8 additional characters added to the gold edition make for a decent add-on and help extend the fun you will have playing this title.
The in-game cut scene's are well done and add to the gameplay experience rather then detract from it. The CGI cut scene's are very well made and enjoyable to watch. Players will find themselves going back to watch these and show them to their friends.
The addition of online and single console multiplayer through the entire store is a big addition and fairly painless to use.
Plus, lets get real, it's always fun to play your favorite superhero or villain.
THE BAD: The first, and probably biggest complaint, is the voice acting. The quality could hardly be worse and does take the player out of the otherwise engrossing game. Had the developer chosen to use better talent, this game could have gone from good to great.
The Multi-player, while very fun, plagued by camera problems as when playing single console, everyone has to stay in the same small area. This can be very frustrating.
THE VERDICT: The most important thing about a game is whether it is fun to play, and on that criteria, this game is a success. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys adventure style games and comic fans alike.
