Great Guitar with a few quirks May 12, 2008 Overall this is a good guitar as a replacement to the strat, especially if you want the bi-directional, D-pad type strummer. Some issues:
1) Synching the Nyko guitar takes a bit of work the first time around. I had to constantly unplug and plug in the dongle and remove the betteries from the guitar to finally get them to synch. I did follow the instructions with little success.
2) The guitar does randomly lock up and no longer send any signals. The only way to reset the controller is to remove the batteries. I keep my PS3 controller handy to help pause if this happens in the middle of a song.
3) The frets take a bit to get used to. They are move recessed in, and smaller, making for faster sliding between, but sometimes you simply lose where you are, as the divot on the yellow fret is very small.
4) The balance is weird and the guitar tends to hand neck down rather than body down.
Overall though, my game play has improved and I would take this over the strat.
PS3 Frontman Wireless Guitar-what a rip-off May 7, 2008 When compared to the overall appearance of the Rockband wireless guitar, this thing looks like a cheaply-made piece of crap. It is a shame that they would charge just as much for it. Another problem that I had personally is that the neck of the guitar is fatter, therefore harder to get my small hands around. While the entire fret is the button on the Rockband guitar, the Frontman only has a button in the middle of the "fret" that you have to hit. Overall, I am very dissapointed with this guitar, HOWEVER...it stums better than the Rockband guitar, just like a Guitar Hero guitar (even makes the clicking noise)...for this reason...my boyfriend says we have to keep the damn thing.
The Frontman Guitar Compromise May 1, 2008 I have been anxiously awaiting the Nyko Frontman PS3 guitar ever since I purchased both Guitar Hero III and Rockband for the PS3. So far, I have only used this guitar with GH III.
Positives: Good price (cheaper than the official guitar controllers) Dual game compatibility (use with both GH III and RB) Excellent whammy bar. Easier to use than the other controllers' whammy bars Clicky strum bar (similar to the GH Les Paul controller)
Negatives: Note keys (buttons) do not reach towards the edge of the neck. You have to reach around the (somewhat thicker) neck to hit the note keys. A bit off-balance, neck of the guitar hangs down. Synchronization issues at first hookup. I had to disconnect my GH dongle before the Nyko Frontman would synch with its' dongle.
Overall impressions: So far, I like this controller very much and the positives far outweigh the negatives for me. I am a satisfied customer at this point.
Decent price but could be better... April 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great playing guitar for the price. The length of the neck is more in-line with the Rock Band guitar which is good for us older folks. However there was some linking issues that took awhile to sort out.
Excellent guitar for the money April 28, 2008 I have been looking for a second Rock Band guitar that is compatible with Guitar Hero for a long time. I am glad to see there is finally one available and I am very happy with my purchase. The instructions are wrong, this is known now, and once I did the proper sequence to sync to guitar there were no problems. The guitar has a very solid feel to it, and the fret is excellent. I like how the buttons are spaced, there is a gap between each one, so no more pressing two down on accident. Overall, this is a very solid product, and will be my main choice of guitar when playing from now on. No complaints from me at all, purchase this if you have friend's over while you play Rock Band!
